'To deep clean tricky items whilst keeping them in good condition, I'd advise having your laundry and large items dry cleaned by a professional, rather than attempting "stripping" at home.' 4. 'Soaking items all day can lead to your laundry developing mould pores if they're not completely dried out afterwards,' explains Deyan. Laundry stripping - a popular cleaning method which involves placing items in hot water for long periods of time to remove detergent residue, fabric softener and minerals from hard water - can cause problems if it's not done properly. Despite growing fears around sleeping on unhygienic pillows, the experts recommend rinsing your pillows in the bath with gentle laundry detergent, before leaving them to air dry outside. While tumble drying your pillows can help keep them fresh and uncontaminated, putting memory foam pillows in the dryer can in fact break down their structure and cause them to disintegrate. To be on the safe side, look out for tried and tested cleaning methods that use natural and reliable products, in order to protect your own health and that of the items you're trying to clean'. Always err on the side of caution before tackling your laundry with online advice. 'Certain trends are not worth your time and can do more harm than good. 'Whilst the majority of the Internet's cleaning hacks prove to be harmless and indeed helpful, it's worthwhile checking with experts whether these tips are safe to use at home before you try them,' says Deyan. While there's nothing wrong with borrowing a few cleaning tips online, Deyan Dimitrov from Laundryheap has revealed the trends to be careful of – including stripping bedlinen, mixing products and popping pillows in the tumble dryer.
